Project Overview

Itʼs an era of digital media and social media consume hours of screen time while adding limited value to our lives. On average 2 hours and 26 minutes are spent on social media globally and the largest share belongs to the 18 to 24 age group, which are either enrolled in college or university.

With Extra Ed we aim to modernize how students communicate with the students in universities through social media. It operates as a dynamic social networking application where universities share events and news, allowing students to engage with these updates. Extra Ed is committed to providing a contemporary, secure, and quality-controlled platform that optimizes communication for students.

Key Findings

Documenting Technical & Functional Gaps

This project required working on the legacy code as well as integrating multiple databases and new features for which a deep system understanding was required. So the first key finding was to document all gaps in technical & functional areas to devise a strategy

Challenge

01

Understanding and Optimizing This Legacy Code

Xeltec aimed to optimize the application by introducing new features which required understanding the legacy codebase. Legacy code was complex and hard to crack which was a major challenge.

02

Implementing New Features

Another challenge with Extra Ed was to add a set of new features including chat functionality, interest based filtration, news feed and integrating multiple dashboards. To add these features, we needed a strategic roadmap.

Implemented Solution

To overcome these challenges, engineers at Xeltec implemented the following solutions:

Simplifying and Enhancing Maintainability

To address the complex legacy code, we conducted a thorough code analysis, added documentation and comments, performed strategic code refactoring, modularized components, and conducted rigorous testing and debugging. This helped us improve the code clarity and maintainability of the Extar Ed.

Features Prioritization And Gathering Requirements

Our solution involved requirements gathering & feature prioritization while planning the application architecture. This required rigorous testing, user feedback integration, and seamless deployment ensuring fluid user experience. This method ensured the successful addition of new features while maintaining system stability and performance.

Following were the features added by Xeltec Engineers

  • Developed Four Dashboards in React including Super-admin,
    Admissio
  • Implemented News Feed in the dashboard.
  • Implemented profiles in a way that users can view pictures,
files and YouTube videos in student and university profiles.
  • Chat between students and admission officers with the history
of chat with live notifications through Signal
